18 housing organisations from across the region came together to compete at the second annual NE Housing golf day event at Houghton-Le-Spring golf club.

The winners, SFPA, who scored an impressive 93 points, sealed their victory against Galliford Try who were just points behind, walking away in second place.

Jimmy Shoulder, past chairman of SFPA, said: “Overall it was a great day – everyone had a great time and there was a lot of friendly competition. We will definitely be returning next year to regain our title.”

Golfers also had the chance to win a Mazda MX5 sponsored by SG Petch if they managed a hole-in-one on the eighth hole.

Craig Saunders, general manager at SG Petch Durham, said: “The car looked great next to the very tricky eighth hole – sadly nobody managed to get a hole in one to win the car but we did see some competitors come very close!”

After golfers finished all 12 holes, the day concluded with a ceremony of awards to congratulate the winners. Adam Grant was awarded the best individual player of the day while 10 players were congratulated for their efforts in the mini challenge ‘Beat the Pro’ which ran throughout the day.

Chief executive of The Konect Group, organisers of the event, Gavin Brown, said: “It was a very close competition and we saw some real talent throughout the day. We are delighted with how successful the event was – it was great to see so many people involved.

“We have already started planning our third annual NE Housing golf day which will take place next May 2017.”
