Free after three parking back for 2015

203Shoppers and businesses are set to get an early Christmas present with the news that free after three parking will return from December 1.

After proving popular last year, parking in all Durham County Council-run car parks, as well as on-street parking bays in Durham City, will be free after 3.00pm from Tuesday, December 1 until Sunday, January 3.

The council introduced the measure to further support local businesses as well as helping to make affording Christmas a little easier for residents.

Cllr Neil Foster, Durham County Council’s Cabinet member for economic regeneration and culture, said: “The run-up to Christmas is a vital time for town centre traders and our local economy. By providing free parking after 3pm we hope we can help both County Durham’s residents and businesses alike.”

In addition, parking is free at all council-run car parks from the earlier time of 10am on December 5 as part of the council’s ongoing support of the annual Small Business Saturday campaign.

Further details on the location and opening times of all council-owned car parks is available at: www.durham.gov.uk/parking
