Fun Buggies in top gear at intu Eldon Square

intu Eldon Square has launched a fun mode of transport for younger visitors, designed to keep them entertained when they go shopping with mum or dad.

Colourful fun buggies are proving to be a big distraction for young girls and boys eager to take the cute cars for a spin, while under the watchful eye of a responsible adult.

Eight fun buggies are available to hire at intu Eldon Square’s customer service desk outside Debenhams. It’s a nominal £3 to hire a buggy for one hour; a returnable £20 deposit is required, along with two forms of ID, including one photo ID – and then young drivers are presented with their own driving licenses.

Two young friends who enjoyed taking a ride in the miniature motors are Ted Rimmer (18 months) from Gosforth and Wilf Mitchell (2) from South Gosforth.

Joanne Tames, mum to Wilf, said:

“My son can be a nightmare to take shopping; he refuses to go in a push chair, so I either have to carry him or run around after him, which is not an ideal way to shop. These miniature cars are a great way to keep him engaged for an hour so I can actually have time to browse and enjoy my shopping experience!”

Tania Vesty, marketing manager at intu Eldon Square, added:

“The fun buggies have been an instant success; it’s such a great way to keep little ones entertained, and at the same time securely strapped in, while parents/carers are in complete control of the car and have a handy basket for bags attached. The new fun cars enable adults to get off to a flying start with their shopping, and the whole family is happy at the finishing line! We noticed that mums and dads are readily taking pics of their little ones enjoying their fun buggy rides, so we’ve created a fun competition that families can take part in during the month of August and we can all share in the little ones’ fun buggy joy!

“Families can enter by posting a picture of their children in our miniature cars along with their name and age in the comments of the fun buggies competition post on intu Eldon Square’s Facebook page. The winner will be chosen at random and receive a magical Disney Prize package including a Disney/Pixar’s Cars bag, a Cars jigsaw puzzle, a water bottle, and a family ticket to see Disney On Ice presents Passport to Adventure at the Metro Radio Arena on Tuesday 3 October.

“We’re always looking to improve our customer experience here at intu Eldon Square, and develop our signature services to our loyal and valued shoppers. As well as receiving extremely positive feedback for our new fun buggies, we’ve been complimented on the updating of our parent and baby rooms,* in addition to our free phone charging and wifi facilities.”

*Parent and baby rooms

When a nappy needs changing, mummy needs a rest, or a toddler needs taming, intu Eldon Square’s parent and baby rooms are on hand to ensure a calming and peaceful environment.

intu Eldon Square caters for parents’ needs with baby changing facilities, nappy dispensers and private areas for feeding. Shoppers can find everything they need in order to take care of their little ones at the new parent and baby room near the Customer Service Desk adjacent to George’s British Kitchen at Grey’s Quarter, as well as a facility upstairs from the Clayton Street entrance, adjacent to Debenhams. A newly refurbished parent and baby facility and toilets will be opening in the autumn next to Waitrose.
