All the fun of the fair at County Durham libraries

Roll up! Roll up! The carnival is in town and bringing all the fun of the fair to County Durham libraries this month.

Hey Presto!, a new family theatre production, will be stopping at libraries in Chester-le-Street and Seaham over the coming weeks.

An adaptation of a popular picture book by author-illustrator Nadia Shireen, this magical musical is aimed at children aged under seven-years- old.

It has been produced by New Writing North for Durham Book Festival 2016, part of Durham County Council’s festivals programme.

The story follows best friends Presto and Monty. Monty is great at singing, eating ice cream and pulling funny faces, while Presto is a brilliant magician.

When the carnival comes to town, Presto and Monty decide to join up with their amazing magic act. The show is a huge success but the fame goes to Monty’s head.

Can the friends figure out how to work together before it’s too late? Families will have to head along to one of the following performances to find out:

 Chester-le- Street Library – Wednesday, 26 October at 2.30pm

 Seaham Library – Saturday, 29 October at 2.30pm

Anne Disley, programme director at New Writing North and producer of Hey Presto!, said:

“We are incredibly excited to be touring a brand new production for under 7s and their families this autumn.

“We feel very lucky to have Nadia Shireen’s permission to adapt this brilliant picture book, which is full of laughter and fun, as well as a very heart-warming message about friendship and the fact that we are all different but have our own special talents, which should be celebrated and nurtured.”
