Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Ghoulish goings-on at Darlington

79A spook-tacular series of Hallowe’en events is set to send shivers through shoppers at Darlington next month.

In the run up to 31 October, the town centre’s ancient Yards will be transformed into spooky streets, with spiders, pumpkins and cobwebs, while Cornmill Shopping Centre and Crown Street Library will have activities for residents and visitors alike.

The fun begins Monday 26 October, when the Library hosts a Hoots Halloween Party; an interactive mix of animals, magic and storytelling.

Then, on Wednesday, 28 October, children’s book illustrator, Liz Million, will be running Halloween-themed crafts sessions in the morning, at Central Library.

And, on Saturday 31 October, there will be pumpkin carving workshops near the Market Cross; the Cornmill Centre has invited Uncle Doom and his Piano of Gloom to entertain shoppers with a series of spooky songs, while Queen Street hosts the Scooby Doo Queen Street Mystery trail.

All events are open to the public and free of charge.

“This year we’re pulling out all the stops to ensure Darlington is suitably spooky this Hallowe’en,” said Alex Hirst, manager of BID company Distinct Darlington, “and we hope as many people as possible will come along and join in the fun.”

The Hoots Halloween Party, suitable for those aged four and above, takes place between 10am and 11am and costs £3 per child.

The Halloween-themed crafts sessions are between 10am and 11.30am at Central Library and tickets cost £2.50 for children aged over five.

All library events must be booked and paid for in advance.
