A Teesdale foodie who is a self-declared ‘slave to gingerbread’ will be showcasing her ‘Gingers of the North’ and ‘Ginger Ninjas’ at this year’s Bishop Auckland Food Festival (BAFF) this month.
Carol Cowie who bakes at her farm near Hamsterley admits to cooking from dawn till dusk on a regular basis to keep customers happy! This year Gingernuts of Teesdale will be back at BAFF on April 23 and 24, for the fourth time with everything from karate kicking ninjas to a ginger Angel of the North and jars of ginger babies on sale. Alongside this mouth-watering array of biscuits will be Carol’s home-stitched retro 1950’s style kitchen aprons. But why is BAFF so special?
“I do a lot of festivals and markets but Bishop Auckland Food Festival is the one I like best. I like the fact that it’s a showcase for people who live in the local area. It’s the best festival I do for business because of the high footfall and my products are reasonably priced so appeal to lots of the families that come,” says Carol.
Cabinet member for culture and economic regeneration, Cllr Neil Foster, said: “Local producers are at the heart of Bishop Auckland Food Festival and we pride ourselves on having a really broad offer for the tens of thousands of people who come, so this year we have 150 producers on site.
“Last year’s festival was worth more than £570, 000 to the local economy which was up £50,000 on the previous year. I really hope we can keep this upward trend, so come along and show your support for this great family event.”
BAFF is a Durham County Council event which is partnered by Bishop Auckland Town Council and The Auckland Castle Trust.
