Gran Re-opening for Revamped Primary

Screen Shot 2016-01-29 at 09.12.36A MIDDLESBROUGH school threw open its doors this week after a major makeover.

Newport Primary School is looking forward to growing in size following the creation of three new classrooms.

The £700,000 project – funded by Middlesbrough Council in partnership with the school – will help to address the need for new school places in the centre of town.

The revamp also features a new cloakroom and toilets and a new entrance and corridor at the school in St Paul’s Road.

Two areas have also been refurbished to create a nurture room and a small meeting room which provides a calm space for children and a space for parents and professionals to meet.

The works were officially unveiled at a grand opening evening on Tuesday (January 26) when Chair of Governors Councillor Tracy Harvey was given a guided tour by members of School Council.

There were further tours of the new facilities for parents and carers – also led by School Council members – on Thursday.

Headteacher Julie Sutton said: “Before the building work began, the school was an open plan design.

“This meant that children often had to travel through other classrooms which was quite disruptive to lessons, but the new corridor and classrooms mean that this longer happens.

“This exciting project has given our school community a wonderful environment that we can all be proud of.”
