Great Ayton celebrates medalists

Great Ayton will welcome back two of its most famous sons next weekend.

Commonwealth Games medallists Charlie and Harry Tanfield will return to their home village – with a special celebration on High Green.

Cyclist 21 year old Charlie took gold in the individual pursuit and silver in the team pursuit; while his older brother Harry, aged 23, took silver in the time trial at the Australia games.

They will be welcomed back by local schoolchildren, scouts, village VIPs and dignatories – with local people invited along to meet them.  A display of their racing bikes will be at High Green; and banners will be mounted throughout the community.

“We are very proud of our two local lads – they have worked hard to achieve this accolade and we wanted to celebrate it with them and the local community,” said Chairman of Great Ayton Parish Council, Councillor John Fletcher.

The celebrations start at 11am on April 28th on High Green.
