The team behind the OxGlam fashion show at this year’s Festival of Thrift is on the lookout for people with a passion for thrifty fashion and some sewing and making skills.

Oxfam Darlington is looking for creative upcyclers and sewers to help create stunning, one-of-a-kind outfits from donated fabrics and other items that will feature in this year’s OxGlam Fashion Show at the Festival of Thrift on 23 and 24 September.

The runway show is a staple part of the Festival’s packed event programme and features extraordinary one-off outfits aimed at showing that looking stylish is not all about spending money.

Rachel Parry, Store Manager from Oxfam Darlington, who works with colleagues from Oxfam Jesmond and Oxfam Durham Boutique and Bookshop to put the fashion show together, said: “Looking a million dollars doesn’t have to cost; it’s all about how you style it and how you let your individuality shine through.

“Mixing up your styling with vintage and second hand is a wonderful way to stamp out a unique style and has really taken hold in recent years.

“At this year’s Festival of Thrift we’re looking to go BIG with the outfits so we need lots of sewing experts to lend a hand.

“Novice or expert, we’d love to hear from you.  You just need an open mind, a sense of fun and a passion for creativity and upcycling!”

Stella Hall, Festival of Thrift director said: “I always look forward each year to the OxGlam team’s inventive new takes on upcycling old fashion items.”

At this year’s event Oxfam is also continuing its partnership with the University of Teesside Fashion department.

Stella added: “The Thrift module wowed audiences at this year’s Degree Shows so I can’t wait to see what they’ll be doing on the runway and at the event to inspire visitors with upcycling fashion tips and tricks.”

A meeting is being held at the Oxfam Darlington shop, at 24 Skinnergate, Darlington, DL3 7NW, on Saturday 24th June at 2pm where people can find out what it’s all about.

Anybody who can’t make the meeting, but still wants to get involved, can call the store on 01325 382415 and ask to speak to Rachel or Sue, or email oxfamshopf0417@oxfam.org.uk

The 2017 Festival of Thrift takes place on 23 + 24 September at Kirkleatham Museum and Grounds. Further details: www.festivalofthrift.co.uk
