GUNGE YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS AT SOUTH TYNESIDE…

PARENTS WONDERING how to keep their youngsters entertained throughout August should head to South Tyneside.

As part of the three-month South Tyneside Festival, South Shields is welcoming the return of Kids Fun-Fest, which will run every Tuesday and Thursday from 2 – 23 August.

On Tuesday afternoons young people who turn up at South Shields Amphitheatre can enjoy two hours of entertainment with Tony Junior and guests, with lots of free fun activities.

Thursdays will see the return of Stephen Sullivan and Craig Johnson with a packed programme of fun and games – including the return of the Gunge Tank.

Children who take part can be in with the chance to win prizes, gunge Stephen and Craig and can even nominate a friend or family member to face the tank.

The Kids Fun-Fest is just one of a whole host of activities which make up the festival, which also includes free brass band performances at the Amphitheatre on Sunday afternoons throughout August.

The festival has already seen thousands of visitors turn up to enjoy the free Sunday Concert series at Bents Park, which ends this weekend with performances by Rebecca Ferguson, Atomic Kitten and Heather Small.

Cllr Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council with responsibility for culture and leisure, said the return of the Kids Fun Fest would delight lots of families.

“This is a firm favourite every summer and we know that lots of youngsters will be looking forward to going along,” he said.

“It is also a great opportunity for families to get out and about and enjoy the fresh air and have some fun at the same time.”

Each session of the Kids Fun-Fest runs from 2pm to 4pm.

South Tyneside Festival is supported by BBC Newcastle 95.4 FM and sponsored by Port of Tyne, Colmans Seafood Temple and Minchella & Co.
