Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Harry Potter celebration at Middlesbrough Central Library

A CELEBRATION of all things Harry Potter will take place at Middlesbrough Central Library today (February 1).

The annual event is aimed at children aged 4-14, will run from 4pm-6.30pm and will include magic shows with the library’s very own Hogwarts Wizard, Magic Paul, and a chance to meet fantastic beasts from Kirkleatham Owl Centre.

Visitors can also create their own beasts on various craft stalls and out of Lego while a number of traders will be attending on the night including Tilly’s Cupcakes with Harry Potter themed cakes, while Hannah’s Sweets and Galaxy will be selling a range of Harry Potter merchandise.

The event will also see the official unveiling of a new Harry Potter Book Bench. During the summer children across Middlesbrough voted for their favourite book and unsurprisingly Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was in the Top Ten.

Each book from the Top Ten will be immortalised on a book bench to be housed in community hubs and libraries across the town.

Families worked with library staff in Central Library to create the Harry Potter themed bench and it will be unveiled at 4.30pm. Families can also enjoy looking at the British Library Harry Potter: A History of Magic exhibition before it closes at the end of February.

Ruth Cull, Library Development Officer for Middlesbrough Council, said: “Harry Potter Book Night is one of the highlights of the library calendar and we love to welcome hundreds of young wizards, witches and muggles to come along in their best wizarding attire and have a magical evening.

“This year’s event is bigger than ever and we’d encourage families to reserve a place on 01642 729002.”

  • Tickets are £1 per child.
