A Sedgefield venue is preparing to welcome musical talent all the way from Cabot, Vermont next week, when a renowned husband and wife duo perform a one-off gig in the region.  American roots and folk artistes Dana and Susan Robinson will appear at the historic Manor House on Friday 17 November for a toe-tapping performance in the Grade II listed 18thcentury building’s Old Court Room.

Dana and Susan Robinson are described as two guitar-playing, banjo-frailing, fiddle-sawing and harmony-singing interpreters of the American experience who are best known for their unique blend of contemporary song-writing and traditional Appalachian music. Since 1994 Dana has released ten critically acclaimed albums working with such producers as Grammy-award winning Bil VornDick and Pete Sutherland. Dana and Susan’s last two CDs, American Hornpipe and Big Mystery, went to number one and number three respectively on the Folk DJ charts with two top ten singles.

Describing the duo, Dirty Linen magazine said: “Many songwriters such as Bruce Springsteen or John Mellencamp have been heralded as modern-day Woody Guthries or keepers of the American rural spirit, but that mantle might be better entrusted to musicians like Dana Robinson who embody both the heart and soul of folk music.”

Joining Dana and Susan for what is the Manor House’s final gig of 2017 are The Milliners. The modern country music performers, who live in Sedgefield close to the Manor House, are set to warm up the audience before Dana and Susan hit the stage with their fiddle tunes and banjo grooves.

The Manor House is one of only two North East venues where Dana and Susan will perform during this latest tour, further cementing the Old Court Room’s growing renown as a prestigious location for intimate music events.  In October the Manor House hosted its first sell-out live music event by acclaimed singer Keith James and more recently saw packed crowds enjoy an evening featuring the infectious tunes of The Housemartins and The Beautiful South performed by Old Red Eyes.

Marie Walker, events manager for Manor House 1707 Ltd, comments:

“This promises to be another memorable evening of music in atmospheric and intimate surroundings.  Dana and Susan Robinson have built excellent reputations for their elegant melodies and rich harmony singing, so it’s a coup for the Manor House to attract them here all the way from New England during their latest tour.  It will be a night of talented duos as local county band The Milliners will also take to the stage to entertain guests.  We’re looking forward to another fantastic show to see out 2017 in style before we get ready to welcome many more highly regarded artistes in the new year.”

Tickets for Dana and Susan Robinson supported by The Milliners are priced at £11.00 (including booking fee) and are available to those aged 14 and over.  To purchase please visit: www.wegottickets.com/event/407497
