Holocaust Memorial Day 2016 Details Announced

Screen Shot 2015-12-10 at 10.59.14DETAILS of the 2016 Holocaust Memorial Day commemorations have been announced.

Middlesbrough Council will be working in partnership with Teesside University to hold the event in the Constantine Lecture Theatre, The Tower Building, at the university, at noon on Wednesday, January 27.

The theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2016 is ‘Don’t Stand By’, and builds on the legacy of HMD 2015.

It will be focusing on the contemporary relevance of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides, and considering our individual responsibilities not to be bystanders to hate crime and prejudice, nor to international threats of genocide.

The event is open to the public and will last no longer than an hour. Light refreshments will be served outside the lecture theatre following the event.

Teesside University will also be running a series of conferences on the afternoon, further details of which will be posted on Middlesbrough Council’s website in due course.

Holocaust Memorial Day is a time for everyone to remember the attempted annihilation of Europe’s Jewish population, Europe’s Roma and Sinti Gypsies, and the many other victims of Nazi Persecution.

Holocaust Memorial Day also highlights the importance of commemorating genocides that have happened subsequently in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.
