Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Hotel rolls out new breakfast menu

A Newcastle hotel is getting the day off to a cracking start with an eggs-travagent new breakfast menu for residents and non-residents alike.

New Northumbria Hotel, at Osborne Road, Jesmond, which is owned by Newcastle’s leading leisure and hospitality operator, the Malhotra Group plc, is at the heart of one of Tyneside’s most popular party districts.

And the new menu, which is served in the hotel’s Scalini’s restaurant, has been designed to appeal to everyone from corporate clients wishing to start their business day ‘sunny side up’ and partygoers recovering from the night before, to those staying at the 55-bedroom hotel.

Along with a traditional full English, it offers everything from eggs Benedict and New York-style pancakes with crispy bacon and maple syrup to smoked haddock kedgeree and kippers.

Current food trends are also catered for with crushed avocado and poached eggs on toasted sourdough and eggs Florentine – poached eggs and wilted spinach served on a toasted muffin with Hollandaise sauce.

While more adventurous foodies can opt for dishes created specially by the hotel’s chefs, which give classic ingredients a contemporary twist.

These include black pudding Floddi – grilled black pudding, with cheese, bacon, potato hash and a fried egg and four egg omelettes, with fillings such as brie, spinach and smoked salmon.

A large number of vegetarian options are also available such as sweet potato hash, with avocado, spring onion coriander and a poached egg, baked courgette and horizo egg muffin and breakfast wraps with egg, kale and tomato.

Those looking for a more Continental start to the day can opt for a cold buffet of cereals, fresh fruit, charcuterie, yoghurt, pastries and bread rolls, while customers in a hurry can grab hot sausage, bacon or egg rolls and coffee to take away.

“Breakfast is widely believed to be the most important meal of the day,” said hotel manager Rachael Lavelle, “and we believe it should also be the most interesting.

“So, our chefs have created a menu which caters for every possible taste and combines traditional and contemporary dishes with one thing in common; the best possible ingredients.

“We are confident it will prove very popular with our overnight leisure and corporate guests.

“And, by opening it up to non-residents, too, we hope breakfast at the New Northumbria will become a must, for parents on their way back from the school run, for students and for anyone who just wants an egg-cellent start to the day.”
