The two- and three-bed properties, which will be managed by one of the group’s landlords Durham City Homes, are part of the Middlewood Moor development in Ushaw Moor.

The group has taken the opportunity to acquire properties on the £18.2m development in order to address the need for affordable homes in the area.

The announcement comes two years ahead of the group’s forecasted new build plans, as the first step in its pledge towards constructing 700 new properties during the next seven years.

Ged Walsh, Director of Assets and Regeneration at County Durham Housing Group, said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to be able to bring 25 new high quality homes to rent to those in housing need.”

Philip James, Senior Land Manager at Taylor Wimpey North East said: “Taylor Wimpey North East are delighted to be working with County Durham Housing Group to deliver affordable homes to local people unable to access properties on the open market.”

The first three homes as part of the development will be advertised to let through the Durham Key Options scheme at www.durhamkeyoptions.co.uk
