A programme that encourages residents to become more active in the online world is up for a top accolade.
‘Time to get online’ is in the running for The O2 NextGen Digital Challenge Awards 2016’s ‘Digital Inclusion’ category, having been recognised for its work in raising awareness of the benefits of online technology.
The programme, which is run through a County Durham Housing Group, Dale & Valley Homes, Durham City Homes, East Durham Homes and Teesdale Housing Association partnership, is being pitched against the likes of AgeUK for its approach to training, engagement and community inclusion.
Debbie Howe, Digital Inclusion Project Coordinator, is delighted that the project has been recognised.
She said: “Today’s society is moving more and more towards a digital-first environment, which can be a real challenge for people who do not have confidence in this field.
“At Time to get online we team up attendees to our free courses with ‘Digital Champions’, who aim to show people that the internet is nothing to be afraid of and the possibilities it brings are endless.”
The award will be announced in October this year.
