Improved Facilities in Thirsk and Sowerby Officially Opened

Thirsk Leisure Centre RevampThirsk and Sowerby Leisure Centre celebrated the official opening of its new and improved facilities yesterday.

The £200,000 major improvements to the pool hall and changing village were funded by the district council.

On the pool side, it included replacing pool surround tiles, high level works including ceiling cladding, refreshing the seating, improving the poolside lighting and installation of storage for pool equipment. Whilst the changing rooms have benefitted from improved lighting and drainage and re-grouting of the floor and shower walls.

Members of Hambleton District Council joined Leisure Centre staff at the opening.

“I am delighted to open the pool hall and changing village which confirms the district council’s commitment to helping keep people fit and healthy, “said Councillor Mrs Bridget Fortune, Portfolio Holder for Leisure.

“The whole centre has benefitted from a refresh with clearer signage inside and out and the improvements have been very well received by customers and the rest of the community.”
