international-language-daySaturday 24th of September – a day to put in your diary! ICOS (International Community Organisation of Sunderland) is holding an International Language Day in City Space, part of the the University of Sunderland, in conjunction with the University Student Union.

We are aware of the growing diversity within the North East and are proud of the culture that it brings to the area; and this event will reflect this.

There will be various interesting exhibitions throughout the day, including a quiz about culture and languages, provided by the Friends of the Drop in Centre, the 7 main faiths of the world and an oral history project brought by The Donnison School of Living History North East, and a Building Bridges oral history piece by the Sunderland Bangladeshi International Centre. Joining these exhibits will be some of our own people living in the North East, but from other cultures and countries, who will contribute to the event with culture and language sessions; and will even bring some of their native food along for you try out!

ICOS, the charity and one of the contributors behind this event, will be there throughout the whole day to endorse their active resistance towards Hate Crime in the North East. They are one of the prominent charities in Sunderland that are an active part in the BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) communities who provide support, information, advice and guidance to all who need it.

Culture, food and music, there’s no better way to welcome and honour all communities!

Where: City Space – University of Sunderland, SR1 3SD. When: Saturday 24th September. Time: 10am – 4pm.
