Investors in People award Gold to Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council

Screen Shot 2015-10-12 at 16.22.38REDCAR & Cleveland Borough Council has achieved the prestigious ‘Investors In People’ (IIP) Gold standard for the second time in a row.

The Gold standard is the highest level of accreditation awarded by IIP with only seven per cent of organisations in the UK achieving Gold.

The Council is the only local authority in the North East of England to have achieved the standard which demonstrates excellence in developing and supporting staff. The assessment looks at all aspects of an organisation’s employment practice from recruitment through to reward, involvement, development and management.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Sue Jeffrey, said:

“To achieve the IIP’s highest standard for the second time during a period of considerable change for the authority fills me with real optimism for the future.

“What came through loud and clear in the IIP report is the strength of the Council in some key areas including:

  • leading and managing change
  • communication with staff
  • recognising and rewarding hard work
  • commitment to learning and development.

“Such a high level of accreditation for the second time is the sign of great people management and a commitment to staff development that shows an organisation committed to being the very best it can be.”

During the week long assessment the IIP specialists carried out a number of detailed investigations and meetings with a wide range of staff from the Council. Staff were chosen at random by the assessors and over 100 interviews were conducted.

The Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland, Councillor Brenda Forster, added:

“To be awarded Gold twice is a fantastic achievement for the Council.

“The assessor was particularly impressed with the ‘overall achievement’ of the Council against their requirements which resulted in the Council maintaining its gold status – the only authority in the North East of England to have achieved this standard.

“IIP provides a model for improvement and as an organisation we are committed to maintaining and enhancing the high standards we have achieved.”

Investors in People is the UK’s leading accreditation for business improvement through people management, and provides a wealth of resources for organisations to innovate, improve and grow, with a focus on good people making great business.
