Kapow gets ready to hit Stockton

A GIANT animatronic dragon will be joined by wizards, daleks and a star of Dr Who as one of the most exciting events on the sci-fi calendar heads to Stockton next week.

On Saturday 10 June the town will once again host Kapow – an event which brings together a whole host of specialist traders who will be selling toys, memorabilia and collectables from every conceivable area of the sci fi world.

Kapow, which is now back for the fourth year, was originally created by owners of gift shop, Who Ray! at Silver Street, Stockton.

And along with the chance to snap up items for their collections, families and visitors of all ages can enjoy a packed day of displays, workshops and activities.

These will include wand making workshops for youngsters, a ‘hotter than Potter’ magic show, featuring Professor Duffus, a birds of prey display and the appearance of some extremely well known sci fi ‘baddies.’

Fans of tv show Games of Thrones will also not want to miss the opportunity to get up close and personal with a 3.5m animatronic dragon, who will arrive in Stockton town centre accompanied by a Daenerys lookalike.

The day will also feature a Q and A session with Katie Manning, best known for role as Dr Who sidekick Jo Grant during the 1970s.

The specialist market is being run by Stockton Borough Council with all the additional elements on the day organised by Stockton BID, is being staged in a marquee at the High Street, at the heart of the Business Improvement District.

“We’ve got an amazing programme lined up,” said Karen Hindhaugh, manager of Stockton BID.

“There are lots of activities for people of all ages and for anyone who is a fan of science fiction, magic or who just likes to have lots of family fun.”

Kapow is free to attend and runs from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 10 June.
