Looked after children awarded at ceremony

Screen Shot 2015-12-14 at 13.42.32LOOKED after children and care leavers were recognised at a recent awards ceremony at Tuned In! in Redcar.

Children, young people, carers and special guests attended the event, including Olympic athlete Chris Tomlinson, the Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland Cllr Brenda Forster, Leader of Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council Cllr Sue Jeffrey and the council’s chief executive Amanda Skelton.

Overall winners of award categories, which included awards for education, health, sport, determination and outstanding achievement, were presented to the children and young people.

The festivities continued after the ceremony with entertainment provided by magician, Paul Lytton along with music from Mary Holdsworth and James Lilly.

Cllr Craig Hannaway, cabinet member for children at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council said: “The event was a fantastic way to recognise the achievements of these young people who thoroughly deserve their awards.

“It was a great evening, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the carers who play such an invaluable role.”

Children and young people were recognised with the presentation of a certificate from the Mayor.

Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland, Cllr Brenda Forster said: “I was absolutely delighted to have awarded these young people their certificates, as it is so important we recognise their achievements.”
