Major investment considered for Seaton Valley Federation

Discussions are being held about a multi-million investment by Northumberland County Council for the Seaton Valley Federation in Seaton Delaval.

Initial meetings have taken place between the Federation and County Council officers on the creation of a brand new building on its site on Elsdon Avenue.

Presently the site contains Astley Community High School which is a mixed 13-18 comprehensive school and Whytrig Middle School which is a mixed 9-13 comprehensive school.  The third school in the Federation is Seaton Sluice Middle School.  All three schools are maintained by the County Council.

The Federation is organising an open evening for Federation parents, parents from feeder schools and staff on Monday 13 March to outline the plans. The county council will have an exhibition showing recent new build projects at Prudhoe, Bedlington and Alnwick to highlight some of the potential options.

Councillor Robert Arckless, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services at Northumberland County Council, said: “Delivering the best possible educational environment for pupils is a priority for the County Council and we are committed to deliver a high quality environment for all students.”

Chair of Governors and local ward councillor Susan Dungworth added: “I’m delighted that the County Council are considering a significant capital investment to the Federation to upgrade and remodel our current educational facilities.

“While details have not yet been worked out I am confident the development will make a huge difference to daily life for our young people and create the best possible educational environment for our young people.”
