Screen Shot 2015-10-12 at 12.10.38ONE of Tyneside’s trendiest venues is giving students a start of term treat – by slashing its prices for one day each week.

Osbornes Diner, Osborne Road, Jesmond, has unveiled its new autumn menu and, along with a variety of snacks, starters, light meals, ‘subs’ and salads, it is offering a range of handmade beef or chicken burgers.

And every Tuesday, throughout the day, students can receive a 25 per cent discount on the cost of burgers and hot dogs if they show a valid student card.

Also on Tasty Tuesdays, from 7pm, the venue is serving a selection of its most popular bar snacks, starters and sliders, such as mac’n’cheese, chicken wings in barbecue sauce and nachos, for just £2 each.

Osbornes has taken its inspiration from all corners of America to create its new menu with a firm focus on the USA’s submarine sandwich, or sub.

These torpedo-shaped rolls come with a choice of fillings, including barbecue chicken and bacon with cheese, steak and onion and pulled pork and are served with coleslaw and either sweet potato fries or hand cut chips.

Designed to appeal to lunchtime diners, they are joined on the menu by a range of salads – such as Caesar, chorizo and halloumi and steak and mushroom – and jacket potatoes with a variety of fillings.

In true American tradition, sweet treats include chocolate brownies and a range of milkshakes, while those looking for something stronger can choose from seven hardshakes, with an alcoholic twist.

Hardshake flavours include Awesome Oreo – Stoli salted caramel vodka, cacao liqueur, caramel, Oreo cookies and chocolate ice cream; The Mountie, made with Jim Beam Maple, Frangelico and vanilla ice cream and Totally Mint, a concoction of crème de menthe, Stoli Chocolat Kokonut Vodka and chocolate ice cream.

“While Osbornes has always been a hugely popular evening destination, its appeal as a lunchtime venue is also really growing,” said Atul Malhotra, Director of Operations at Malhotra Group plc, which owns the venue.

“This new menu is very much geared at our lunchtime trade so, whether people are popping in for a quick bite or enjoying a leisurely catch up with friends, there’s plenty to fit the bill and the occasion.”

Osbornes is open seven days a week, from 12 noon to 9pm Monday to Friday and from 10am to 9pmon Saturday and Sunday.
