Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland Record Single for Charity

A Successful local songwriter has teamed up with Barry Hunt, the Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland to record a Single for the mayor’s charity, in the aim to get into the charts.

The single in questions is Hurry Home which was a hit for Wavelength in 1982. It was written by Steve Thompson who has produced this charity CD as well as performing on it with his band.

Steve Thompson has written songs that have been recorded by Celine Dion, Sheena Easton, Elkie Brooks, The Hollies, The Searchers, The Tygers of Pan Tang, Baby Ford, Colin Blunstone, Elaine Page and Chris Farlowe.

In a long and varied career, Steve also wrote and produced some key recordings during the ‘New Wave of British Heavy Metal’ (NWOBHM) including Raven, Venom (both huge influences on rock giants, Metallica) and The Tygers of Pan Tang, who at one time featured another collaborator of Steve’s – guitarist John Sykes, who went on to join David Coverdale in Whitesnake.

The list of Producers that have worked with Steve is equally impressive; Gus Dudgeon ( Elton John, Chris Rea); Rodger Bain (Black Sabbath); Christopher Neil (Mike & The Mechanics, Marillion, Gerry Rafferty) Peter Collins (Rush, Garry Moore, Bon Jovi)

Steve Thompson commented,

“I am delighted take this recording that was a massive hit in 1982. It is great to make this a hit again and help 2 great causes along the way.

The Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland, Barry Hunt releases his recording of HURRY HOME on Monday 20th February. Zetland FM broadcast the song for the first time ever on their breakfast show on Monday 13th February.

Councillor Barry Hunt was elected as Redcar and Cleveland’s Mayor at the Council’s AGM on 12th May 2016 with his official Investiture Ceremony taking place on 19th May at the Redcar & Cleveland Leisure and Community Heart.

Barry Hunt, Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland added,

“It’s a song partly about missing home and loneliness, so it’s perfect to raise awareness of the tragedy of homelessness as well as hard cash to help our wonderful charity workers in the fantastic work they do, day in day out. I am more than happy to do whatever it takes in my year as Mayor, and beyond, to help these fantastic causes. So many talented people are giving their time for free and Teesside University is giving us free recording time, so please support the cause and buy what I am sure will be a quality product.”
