Metro teams up with local attractions this half term

Tyne and Wear Metro is encouraging families to get out and about during half term, offering a range of special offers to explore the wealth of attractions across the region.

A host of popular North East attractions have teamed up with Metro to offer customers exclusive deals during the week, with everything from free child admission and discounted entry to North East attractions to money off at some of the region’s restaurants.

Families can take advantage of the vast range of options available within a few stops on the Metro to keep children entertained in the school holidays, which take place from Monday 29 May to Friday 2 June.

To make the most of these fantastic savings and offers, all Metro customers have to do is mention the Tyne and Wear Metro discount when booking and show a valid Metro ticket or Pop card, valid for travel on the same day, when you arrive at each of the locations.

Metro Services Director, Chris Carson, said: “Metro provides the ideal way to explore everything Tyne and Wear has to offer this May half term and there really is something for everyone. We are incredibly lucky to live in an area which boasts a range of attractions and eateries and its’s fantastic to be able to team up with them to provide exclusive offers just for Metro customers.”

Family Fun

  1. Life Science Centre: Free child admission with a full paying adult

Closest Metro station: Central Station

Life has teamed up with Metro to offer free child entry to the Science Centre with the purchase of an adult ticket – just show a valid Metro ticket or Pop card at Reception to claim this offer.

There’s a range of fun activities on offer for all the family at Life, including the planetarium, Science Theatre, the region’s only 4D Motion Ride, and four cutting-edge, interactive Zones. For more information, visit: www.life.org.uk

Blue Reef Aquarium has teamed up with Tyne and Wear Metro to encourage families and friends to visit its wonderful communities of clownfish, lionfish, stonefish, otters, seals, cow nose rays, and even cotton top tamarins. Blue Reef Aquarium is offering £2 off the full admission price per person on production of a valid Metro ticket or Pop card at reception.

Terms and conditions: Offer is valid until Friday 21 July. Not to be used in conjunction with any other offer or online/family ticket. Photocopies not accepted. Valid for up to 6 people. The offer is applicable to adult, child and concession tickets. To claim, present a valid Metro ticket or Pop card for that day’s travel at admissions.

Newcastle Castle has teamed up with Metro to offer free child entry with the purchase of an adult ticket – just show a valid Metro ticket or Pop card at Reception to claim this offer.

Steeped in history, the Keep and Black Gate are a rugged reminder of northern England’s turbulent past. Explore the ancient passageways and chambers; discover the hidden stories of its inhabitants, and marvel at the commanding views across the city and River Tyne.

Newcastle Castle is open daily 10am-5pm, with last entry at 4.15pm. Tickets are available from the Black Gate reception. Please note: You must purchase tickets here before gaining entry to the Keep.   1. Stephenson Railway Museum: Heritage train ride discounts

Closest Metro Station: Percy Main

Spend a day out this half-term holiday on a heritage train ride following the route of the coal trains at Stephenson Railway Museum. Metro passengers who show a valid ticket or Pop card can take advantage of half price heritage train rides on Sunday 28 and Monday 29 May at the popular North Tyneside museum. Tickets will cost £7.50 instead of £15 for families (2 adults & 2 children); £3 instead of £6 for adults; £2 instead of £4 for concessions. Trains will depart at 11.30am, 12.30pm, 2pm and 3pm.

The four-mile return trip follows the route of the coal trains from the collieries to the River Tyne behind a vintage locomotive in a 1950s passenger carriage. For more information, visit: www.stephensonrailwaymuseum.org.uk.
