Middlesbrough Mela Association Annual General Meeting

Screen Shot 2015-07-31 at 09.44.18WOULD you like to be involved in the most successful and celebratory multi-cultural event in the Tees Valley?

Then Monday’s (August 3) Middlesbrough Mela Association Annual General Meeting at Middlesbrough Town Hall is the place to be.

Middlesbrough Mela is a firm fixture on the regional calendar and this year’s 25th anniversary event saw record crowds converge on Centre Square for a fun family weekend for all, regardless of race, religion or age.

The festival is a true advert for community cohesion and cultural diversity, and each year the Mela Committee looks to build on that success.

The Committee is a team of dedicated individuals who work hard all year round to put on the event, and it is their work which helps to foster and encourage a deep-rooted spirit of unity and togetherness.

The Middlesbrough Mela Association is seeking new Committee members – including two young people aged 16 to 18 – who would like to be part of this team.

Committee members will be involved in the actual running of the Mela, so an interest in the successful development and management of the Mela plus a willingness to attend and contribute to monthly meetings are crucial.

The Association is also seeking new members from the local community and is keen to encourage membership from all cultures and neighbourhoods.

Anyone over the age of 16 with an interest in the well-being and running of the Mela is eligible to become a member. They will not be expected to attend Mela Association Committee Meetings unless they so choose, while membership enables them to elect and vote for Committee members at AGMs. To join a membership form must be completed prior to the AGM to be eligible to vote.

Monday’s AGM will begin at 6pm with official AGM business, including the presentation of the Annual Report and Treasurer’s Report to the Association members followed by the election of Mela Association Committee Members for the year 2015-16.

The Middlesbrough Mela Association AGM takes place on Monday, August 3 from 6pm in the Mandela Room at Middlesbrough Town Hall.

Anyone wishing to attend, become a member or be considered for election is asked to contact Leanne Littlewood on 01642 729137.
