Middlesbrough’s only Grade I Listed Building on track to Open

Screen Shot 2015-07-10 at 11.15.10Work to transform Middlesbrough’s only Grade I listed building into a stunning new wedding and events venue is continuing.

Acklam Hall will open its doors to the public at the end of the year, creating more than 30 new jobs in the process, once the renovation work is complete.

The Hall’s owners are carefully restoring the historic building back to its original grandeur, retaining its incredible original features from the late seventeenth century.

Once open, Acklam Hall will offer bespoke weddings, events and celebrations, corporate events and serviced office accommodation, while diners can eat at Christie’s restaurant at the Hall – with two restaurant experiences to choose from.

Dozens of new jobs will be created including roles such as head chef, office management, personnel for administration, cleaners, porters, kitchen staff and many more.

Acklam Hall may not be open yet but the building is a hive of activity, as director Martin Williams explains.

Mr Williams said: “We are delighted with the progress at the Hall, the rooms are looking fantastic and the project is really coming together.  We have received a lot of interest which is very encouraging and we are looking forward to opening our doors to welcome our first customers.”

Recently a bridal photo shoot took place at the Hall during the restoration.  The shoot was organised by the newest addition to the Acklam Hall team, Wedding and Events manager Kelly Mennear.

Kelly, who is Acklam Hall’s first key appointment, said: “The purpose of the photo shoot was to showcase this magnificent building while offering a glimpse of the wedding offering here at the Hall, albeit still a work in progress!  It was a pleasure to organise and I am delighted with the images, we will be sure to share them on social media in the coming weeks.”

With more than seven years’ experience in the wedding and events industry, previously working at Rockliffe Hall, Wynyard Hall and Auckland Castle, Kelly is looking forward to her most challenging role yet.

Kelly, who lives in Hartlepool, said: “When I first drove up to Acklam Hall I fell in love with it and I feel so fortunate to be working on such a fabulous project.

“This is an exciting time for me and I am really looking forward to working with the rest of the team to launch our wedding, events and corporate packages.

“Seeing everything through from start to finish will be so rewarding. It will be a very proud day for me when we host our very first event.”

Mr Williams added: “Kelly is a fantastic addition to the team at Acklam Hall.  Her personable style, full of enthusiasm, shone through at our first introduction and we knew that we had found the right person to lead on weddings, special occasions and events.”

“Kelly’s knowledge matches her professional approach to making any occasion a hands on, first class experience at Acklam Hall.”
