Mima and the Art of Fun Running

Screen Shot 2015-08-07 at 09.01.19A NEW sponsor is bringing artistic flair to this year’s Tees 3k Fun Run which is now less than a month away.

mima – the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art – is the official backer for the popular family event which takes place before the Tees Pride 10k on Sunday, September 6.

This year’s 3k Fun Run is expected to attract more than 1,000 runners, joggers and walkers of all ages and abilities.

Over the event’s ten years the Fun Run has proved a particular hit with parents and kids, while community groups and charities have taken part to raise money for a range of good causes.

Many of those taking part are decked out in fancy dress, creating the colour, vibrancy and fun that have become the event’s hallmarks.

mima will add an extra dimension to the festival atmosphere at this year’s event with their own marquee in the Athletes’ Village where youngsters and their families can take part in a series of art and craft workshops

mima Marketing Co-ordinator Sarah Smith said: “What better time for mima to support such a community event than on our new journey to become the ‘useful museum’ – making art accessible to everyone and operating with increasing relevance and effect locally.”

mima Director Alistair Hudson added: “We’re really pleased to sponsor such a key event.

“We’ve got a lot to offer to the people of Middlesbrough and this is a great opportunity to take part in society and bring a bit of mima out into the town.”

Councillor Lewis Young, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: “This is one of the biggest events of its kind in the region and it continues to go from strength to strength.

“With just a month to go to this year’s runs, the excitement is already mounting for what should be another record-breaking event.

“Our sponsors play a key role in supporting the 10k and Fun Run and raising their profile, so I’m delighted to welcome mima on board as sponsors of this year’s 3k Fun Run.”
