Screen Shot 2016-03-09 at 13.43.36Mobile Mini, a leading hirer of portable accommodation and secure storage solutions, with its UK head office in Stockton-On-Tees, has appointed ex SSI employee Phillip Bavin as Business Excellence Manager, following his redundancy as part of the recent steel closure on Teesside.

After 37 years at SSI, Phillip is joining the Mobile Mini team to take up the newly created role with the purpose of creating a culture of operational and customer excellence, implementing change, driving continuous improvement and working towards the ISO 9001-2015 accreditation within 2016.

Phillip was previously Product Liaison Specialist at SSI before the steelworks closed in October.  He had previously been employed by Tata, Corus and British Steel and began his career after a technical apprenticeship straight from Sir William Turners Grammar School in Redcar.

The married dad-of-one said: “The skills I learned, the qualifications I gained and the personal development opportunities that were made available to through my previous employers have provided me with ideal transferrable skills for my new role at Mobile Mini.

“Sadly the steel industry in the North East is struggling and the fallout from the closure will go on for some time, but finding new employment in this thriving business makes me feel very lucky, as 100s of my former colleagues are still uncertain about the future.

“I share the same values and passions as Mobile Mini and am happy to be part of a company which strives to be the best in everything it does. It’s very exciting for me to take on a new challenge in a new industry and get my teeth into the position at Mobile Mini, I’m looking forward to working closely with the team and to the challenges ahead”.
