MPI Team Limbers up for Tees Pride 10K

Screen Shot 2015-08-12 at 16.29.19A GROUP of workers from a Teesside research centre have been putting in the miles for a good cause.

The team from the Materials Processing Institute are getting in shape for this year’s Taylor Wimpey Tees Pride 10k which takes place on Sunday, September 6.

The 20-strong team drawn from the Grangetown research centre’s staff will be raising funds for their chosen charity of the year Redcar & Cleveland Mind.

They’ve been training hard over the last four months, even creating a one kilometre running track around their Middlesbrough premises.

Mechanical Engineering Group Manager and running team leader Andy Richardson is delighted at the group’s progress.

He said: “We have a very broad spectrum of runners taking part, from the experts who enter runs such as these every year to complete novices who have thrown themselves in at the deep end to support this worthy charity.

“Aside from raising money, the whole group has benefited massively.

“We’ve been holding training sessions every Tuesday and Thursday, encouraging people to come out of their offices, get some fresh air and improve their fitness at the same time.

“There’s been so much interest in running that we’ve even been working with our on-site bio-diversity group to create a marked running track for our team.”

Race Director Scott Hydon said: “Over the last ten years the Tees Pride 10k has become a firm favourite with walkers and runners looking for a high-profile event to raise funds for charities and good causes.

“Over the years they’ve brought in hundreds of thousands of pounds, while at the same time improving their fitness levels and leading healthier lifestyles.

“We’re looking forward to another record-breaking event, and I wish MPI all the best in both their fund-raising and their athletic endeavours.”
