A mix of classical and contemporary music is being given the big band treatment in the North East this weekend.
South Tyneside Orchestra will be playing everything from Tchaikovsky to Queen at a special Proms in the Park event on Sunday (July 5).
They will be joined for the open air concert in South Marine Park, South Shields, by special guest soloist, Bibi Heal, who will be putting her soprano spin on tracks by Handel, Mozart and many more.
The free event, which forms part of the South Tyneside Festival 2015, will also feature songs from ABBA and popular musical Oliver, as well as rousing renditions of the National Anthem, Land of Hope and Glory, Rule Britannia and Auld Lang Syne.
Visitors are invited to bring their own picnic and sing along to all the performances from 7pm until 9pm.
Councillor Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council, which is organising the event, said: “Proms in the Park is a popular part of the South Tyneside Festival and a great opportunity to hear well-known songs performed in a new and interesting way.
“Both the South Tyneside Orchestra and Bibi Heal are exceptionally talented and their versions of tracks such as Star Wars, The Lady is a Tramp and Jerusalem are bound to be spectacular.”
