Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Musicport Presents Sarah Jane Morris

Screen Shot 2015-07-20 at 11.38.05From her days with The Communards (Don’t Leave Me This Way etc) and her solo hits like Me & Mrs Jones, Sarah Jane has become one of the most respected vocalists of her generation and has worked with some of the greatest musicians around. She has topped the international charts, played Brecht, won the San Remo Song Festival, sold out five seasons at Ronnie Scott’s, sung contemporary opera, been followed by fanatical Italian schoolgirls (she’s huge in Italy), been murdered twice on television, and had songs written for her by Paul Weller -– creative achievements that go on and on.

Her latest album BLOODY RAIN, a homage to Africa, has received rave reviews and is seen by many as her finest body of work. Among a raft of guests on the album are the Zimbabwe-born singerEska, Senegal’s Seckou Keita on kora, UK-Caribbean saxophonist Courtney Pine, Keziah Jones, The Soweto Gospel Choir and the famous James Brown arranger and co-writer Pee Wee Ellis.

In a rare opportunity to see her in these parts, Musicport is delighted she has agreed to take a break from her holiday in the area to perform with her long time collaborator and guitarist Tony Remy for a night that will feature versions of her famous songs alongside new material and well known classics.
