British coffee and tea expert Ringtons is looking to brew up business in Scotland thanks to the appointment of a new business development manager within its business-to-business division.

David Cresswell has joined the Ringtons Beverages team as the division’s first Scotland-based business development manager.  David’s role will see him support Ringtons’ existing clients north of the border and introduce the company’s full hot beverage solution to new audiences within hospitality, leisure and business sectors.

Operating from a base in Glasgow, David boasts an impressive knowledge of the out-of-home coffee market, joining Ringtons from a Scottish independent coffee company, and having previously brought on clients across south-west Scotland, the borders and the central belt for coffee company Matthew Algie.

As a former competitive swimmer and qualified swimming teaching coach, David initially developed his sales skills with sports nutrition company EAS and Ashfield Healthcare, prior to which he honed his tasting skills at wine merchant Oddbins.

Ringtons is famed for its 110-year-old traditional doorstep delivery service, which sees a team of salespeople sell its tea, coffee, edibles and wares from a basket to over 250,000 homes from 20 sites throughout the UK.  Ringtons delivers this unique service to thousands of customers in Edinburgh and the surrounding area on a fortnightly or monthly basis from a site in Bonnyrigg and its Cumbria office reaches south west Scotland.

Speaking of his appointment David Cresswell said: “The out-of-home coffee industry in Scotland is booming and I’m delighted to be joining Ringtons at a time where its Beverages division had trebled in size and a £1.5m investment its north-east coffee roasting facility is complete.  This investment signifies confidence in Ringtons’ offering and provides substantial opportunity for growth and for the team to offer a tailored solution for clients.  When the chance arose to join Ringtons I was keen to be part of a well-known family business with a fantastic back-story, which puts customer service, product quality, innovation and integrity at the forefront of everything it does.”

Ringtons’ business-to-business division offers a full out-of-home hot beverages solution.  From its UK factory, Ringtons blends, roasts and packs all of its teas and fresh coffees.  The food-services division also offers a full portfolio of coffee brewing equipment, crockery, edibles, design services and barista training.

John Broad, National Sales Manager for Ringtons added: “Ringtons has a long-standing presence in Scotland, our doorstep delivery service has been delivering to customers for over 40 years and we have some great B2B clients too – David’s appointment signifies a period of growth for the company and in particular our coffee division which we hope in time we’ll be able further increase our field-based sales team in Scotland.

“Coffee fans are becoming increasingly knowledgeable about what makes a great coffee and our team has to know as much as possible about our coffee to compete in a competitive marketplace.  To stand out, every Ringtons Beverages team member undertakes professional coffee diploma modules run by the Speciality Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE) ensuring they have the necessary coffee skills and knowledge.  David not only has a proven record of successful coffee sales within the hospitality industry, but his sensory skills gained when working within the wine and spirit sector made him an ideal candidate to help us explain to new audiences, and in-turn their customers, what sets Ringtons apart.
