New library hosts story time for schoolchildren

Stanley library - Story Time 2Children gave their minds a workout as they enjoyed story time at a County Durham gym turned library.

Stanley library recently relocated to the town’s Louisa Centre where, along with a new Customer Access Point, it occupies what used to be a weights room and squash court.

And to show off the new facilities 30 six and seven-year-olds from Burnside Primary School were invited for a tour and a tale.

Cllr Maria Plews, Durham County Council’s cabinet member for leisure, libraries and lifelong learning said: “By moving to the Louisa Centre we have improved access to our library services in Stanley, and it was great to be able to invite the children in to see for themselves what we can now offer.”

The library and CAP form the fifth and final phase of a wider refurbishment project that has been carried out at the Louisa Centre to improve leisure facilities at the venue and reduce running costs.
