Screen Shot 2015-09-01 at 14.24.50A new Indoor Market manager has been appointed at Dundas Shopping Centre.

David Harris joins the popular Middlesbrough shopping centre following 18 years of experience within the retail sector. David, from Stockton is now heading up the management of the Indoor Market and is keen to develop its programme of events and activities.

“I’m delighted to take on the role and I’m looking forward to working alongside retailers and local businesses to develop and forge links, which will benefit the town, the shopping centre and the popular indoor Dundas Market.”

David’s appointment follows an 18-month programme of investment and refurbishment of Dundas Market since January 2014, when Contract Experts Limited stepped in to rescue the market traders of the In Shops, which fell into voluntary liquidation.

Christian Lax of Contracts Experts Limited said “David’s appointment will provide Dundas with strong leadership and direction to move forward and make a real difference at the Indoor Market.  I’m excited at the immediate and longer term plans that he has and am confident his appointment will make a real difference to the centre and the market.”

David will oversee the management of 20 retailers in the Indoor Market, which includes a wide range of independent retailers including Danny’s Family Butchers, Fashion Icon, Scissors Hair Salon, Leigh’s Shoe Repairs, Phone tech, Victoria Jackson Renovated Furniture, LD Printing and Jeans Kitchen.

In May, David launched the centres first ever monthly Food and Craft Market and plans to grow this month-by-month. Taking place on the last Friday and Saturday of each month, the event is proving to be a success already.

David said “The Food & Craft Market is a regular event within Dundas and it was the first item on my list to implement upon taking on the new role. In the absence of a regular market in Middlesbrough town centre, we are bringing together a whole host of independent market traders all under one roof to offer more to shoppers.”

As well as the markets, David is starting to plan seasonal activities including Halloween and Christmas events for the whole family.  A new website is also due to be launched in September.

Dundas has a programme to support the recruitment of new businesses into Middlesbrough town centre.  The centre and market has a number of newly refurbished units, available on flexible easy in, easy out lease terms, at affordable prices, which are eligible for Middlesbrough Council’s financial assistance grant to tackle town centre vacancies.

Anyone interested in taking part in the monthly market, wanting to take a retail unit in Dundas Indoor Market or discuss how the Council’s financial assistance grant could help them, should contact David Harris on 01642 232552.
