A LEADING North East bar will be taking diners’ taste buds on a journey around the world with its new spring summer menu.

The award-winning City Tavern at Northumberland Road, Newcastle has expanded its offering for the new season by adding a range of international dishes and sharing planks to its already extensive menu.

The new dishes and planks will complement City Tavern’s regular menu of British pub classics, which includes gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options for diners with special dietary requirements.

Among the dishes featured on the new menu are Manhattan clam chowder, Indian chicken Balti curry, Italian penne puttanesca and Middle Eastern homemade falafel and Spanish meatballs, which feature on the bar bait menu.

Sitting alongside the bar’s popular cheese boards and antipasto sharing planks are three new options, including Greek mezze, baked camembert and a seafood sharing platter.

“Here at City Tavern, we regularly change up our menus to suit the seasons and this time around, I’m especially excited about the new dishes and sharing planks,” said David King, owner of City Tavern.

“Having a combination of home cooked British dishes and international cuisine means that there’s something for everyone to enjoy, whether people are popping in for a quick bite at the bar, a family meal out or having a leisurely catch up with friends.

“With a range of quality dishes that cater to all kinds of dietary requirements, we’re really looking forward to serving up our new spring summer offering to the people of Newcastle.”

City Tavern was taken over by Mr King in 2014 and has had a £450,000 refurbishment to create a modern bar while still retaining the venue’s historic features.
