Osbornes ExternalA new, American-style diner is bringing Stateside favourites to Tyneside.

Osbornes, Osborne Road, Jesmond, launched its new Diner menu this week (Feb 2) with brunch, lunch and all-day menus featuring US classics with a decidedly modern twist.

Osbornes has taken its inspiration from all corners of America and across the border to Mexico, to create a range of burgers, hot dogs and sliders along with a choice of sundaes and milkshakes.

Diners can choose burgers made from either 100 per cent ground beef or chicken breast fillet, with toppings ranging from BBQ pulled pork and pepperoni to hot beef chilli with sour cream and guacamole.

Vegetarians are also catered for with the Meat Me Not, featuring grilled halloumi, a flat cap mushroom, caramelised onions, pesto and rocket.

Hot dogs include the traditional US version with onions, tomato ketchup and American mustard and a Chilli Cheese Dog with beef chilli, jalapeño, cheese, salsa and soured cream.

All burgers and hot dogs come with skinny fries, although sweet potato fries and hand cut chips can be substituted for an additional charge.

Other main meal options include piri piri chicken breast, roasted salmon fillet with pesto and steak and fries – all of which are served with salad, coleslaw and hand cut chips.

Alternatively, the bar snacks and starts menu includes a bucket of chicken wings in BBQ sauce, nachos, macaroni cheese and sliders; a duo of miniature handmade burgers served in a brioche bun.

In true American tradition, sweet treats include a Knickerbocker Glory and hot fudge sundae while, at weekends diners can start the day with traditional pancakes and maple syrup or eggs – cooked to order – and served on toasted muffins.

“Although Osbornes’ Diner menu is a tribute to our cousins across the pond, we also have British dishes, such as a full English breakfast and fish finger sandwiches, for those who favour the Union Jack over the Stars and Stripes at meal times,” said Atul Malhotra.

“But, whichever nationality you opt for, the emphasis throughout is on excellent ingredients, freshly cooked and served just how you want them.”

Osbornes is open seven days a week, from 10am to 11pm.
