Newcastle celebrates 800 years of mayoralty with a Picnic in the park

Newcastle-City-Council-LogoCome and join us for a free, special family picnic to celebrate 800 years of mayoralty in Newcastle.

To commemorate the occasion, the City Council is delivering a programme of activities which draw attention to the city’s history, and celebrates the benefits of democracy, public service, and civic life.  As part of the events, Active Newcastle has organised a picnic in Exhibition Park on the 7th August from 11am – 3pm.  You can either bring your own picnic or purchase it from a range of food stalls.

This free, family themed event is part of the Tunes and Balloons Fiesta taking place that weekend. The picnic will have lots of activities to get involved in including a climbing wall, mini golf, football inflatable, table tennis, dance performances, tennis, family sports fun and of course a picnic area.  If you prefer something more relaxed there will be some gentle Sunday music for you to enjoy around the bandstand.

Cllr, Hazel Stephenson, Lord Mayor of Newcastle said: “I’m absolutely delighted that we are hosting this picnic to celebrate 800 years of mayoralty in Newcastle.  The event is free and has something for everyone with a wide range of activities on offer for all of the family”

As well as all of the fun activities you will also be able to soak up the grandeur and tradition of the Lord Mayor’s parade with the ceremonial horse and carriage on display.
