Newcastle pub celebrates Bavarian beer festival

One of Newcastle’s most popular pubs is throwing a warm, Oktoberfest celebration to mark the world’s biggest beer festival and fair.

Things will go very Bavarian at The Broad Chare on Newcastle’s Quayside between October 5-13. The pub, part of Terry Laybourne’s 21 Hospitality Group, is among a small few in the region that’s changing its menu and beer pumps to celebrate the Munich festival.

The Broad Chare, one of the Top 50 Gastropubs in Britain which has retained the coveted Bib Gourmand in the Michelin Guide 2017, will be offering hearty Oktoberfest specials on the menu plus samples of this year’s Oktoberfest ales from the Bavarian festival.

Authentic snacks will be added to the bar snack menu – so people can enjoy a delicious bratwurst in one hand and a beer in the other.

On the Bar Menu, there will be Obatzter – Beer cheese with radishes and pretzel, Berliner Currywurst with a Kaiser roll or with chips, and Bratwurst and German mustard with Kaiser roll.

Oktoberfest beers include Erdinger Oktoberfest 5.7% – strong and hazy wheat beer with a light taste of hops and a strong malty note and Hofbräu Oktoberfest 6.3% – the world famous Oktoberfest beer – gold in colour, aromatic and savoury. Available in 1 litre Steins.

Porterhouse Butcher and Grill, within Fenwick Food Hall will also be taking part with some fantastic Bavarian sausages and beer.
