Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

teacher largeAmy Walton, from Newcastle, has won the North East Supply Teacher of the Year award.

Amy was one of three supply teachers from PK Education’s North East office, which is based on Collingwood Street in Newcastle, nominated for the award. The winner of the award was decided via an online vote in which Amy Received 57% of the votes.

Amy is one of five regional winners to scoop one of the prestigious annual awards, which are organised by PK education and designed to recognise and reward the vital role supply teachers play in education today.

On winning the award she said: “I am so happy and excited to have won the North East Supply Teacher of the Year. The recognition means so much. I really enjoy supply teaching. I have discovered that I love teaching at primary level and also subjects that I would not have otherwise considered.”

The winners of the Supply Teacher of the Year Awards were announced during National Supply Teacher Week (13 – 17 June 2016); the annual awareness week that supports and celebrates the work of supply teachers.

Amy Walton began supply teaching in January. She had held a permanent role as a music teacher in a secondary school for nine years previously but as a mum to young children she was keen to the better work/life balance that supply teaching delivers.

She always keeps an open mind when looking for work and she thinks that you never know when you might love a certain type of teaching job when you never knew you would. She is adaptable and versatile which helps her a lot when looking for work.

Amy explains with her top tips for supply teachers: “When I registered with PK education, I told them I was happy to teach primary, secondary and SEN and also a range of subjects. As a result, there has only been one day where I have not had any work. By being open to teaching different subjects at different levels, I have discovered that I love teaching primary age children and subjects including history and technology.”

In addition to Amy, the other winners of the PK education Supply Teacher of the Year Awards were:

East Midlands             Stuart Hamilton

South Yorkshire          Sasha Davis

North West                  Vincent Wilkinson

West Midlands            Harshida Patel
