North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Newcastle’s La Yuan bring a taste of China to the city

With Chinese New Year taking place this week, a city centre restaurant is set to bring authentic and traditional Chinese celebrations to the people of Newcastle, as realistic as those that take place in China itself, including a vast, traditional Chinese Tea menu and ceremony that’s unavailable anywhere else in the North East.
La Yuan, based on Newcastle’s Gallowgate, are currently the only restaurant in the North East to offer guests a traditional Chinese Tea menu, as well as being the first restaurant in the North East to offer classic Chinese Tea Ceremonies, available with advance bookings and performed by the restaurant’s very own experienced tea ceremony operator. The restaurant has a menu of over 15 traditional, hand-picked Chinese teas available, from Oolong Tea to Flower Tea, that are all carefully chosen to pair the realistic insight into Chinese culture with the British love for tea.
As well as this, the team at La Yuan have crafted an intimate, family style celebration for The Year Of The Dog festivities that includes pain-stakingly handmade decorations to dress the restaurant with, as well as each guest receiving a Red Envelope on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day, a traditional Chinese staple to bring good luck for the year ahead, with each envelope including a small gift for each customer.
The restaurant will also be serving up a feast of their famous Sichuan cuisine, which will include popular dishes such as Dry Fried Chilli Squid, Snowy Ribs, Whole Steamed Seabass and Four Happiness Meatballs. La Yuan is renowned locally for their authentic approach to Chinese cuisine, and their passion to change the British perspective of Chinese cuisine is clear to see.
La Yuan’s owner, Joshy Jin, said: “In day to day life, through our food, our team are incredibly passionate about bringing authentic Chinese food to Newcastle and changing the British perception of the Chinese cuisine. Chinese New Year is a great chance for us to highlight our passions in this area, and we’re so excited to be able to offer the people of Newcastle an original celebration for The Year Of The Dog, typical of how you would celebrate in China with your family. We have put a lot of thought into this, down to the smallest details, and we hope that our guests enjoy the celebrations!”
