As the start of the 2016 Rio Olympics is getting closer, residents are being urged once again to nominate the district’s top sporting heroes for an award.

The Hambleton Sports Awards recognise and support sports performers, coaches and volunteers for their contribution to sport and the recognition they bring to the district.

“We had a really high standard of nominations last year – and we hope to see some new faces added to the honours list in 2016,” said Councillor Mrs Bridget Fortune, Portfolio Holder for Leisure Services.

“We hope everyone gets taken up with Olympic fever like they did four years ago and gives our sporting heroes the recognition they deserve by nominating them for one of our awards.”

Awards will be presented in nine categories this autumn for:

  • Junior Sportsperson of the Year
  • Sportsperson of the Year (18+)
  • Disabled Sportsperson of the Year
  • Team of the Year
  • Coach of the Year
  • Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Community Sports Project of the Year
  • School Sporting Achievement Award
  • Outstanding Voluntary Contribution

Nominations can be made by completing the online nomination form at www.hambleton.gov.uk/sportsawards or by requesting an application form from 01609 767202 or 767245.    Deadline for applications is 22 September, 2016
