North East dentist Onkar Dhanoya has been elected as Senior Vice-Dean of the Faculty of General Dental Practice (FGDP(UK)), a national organisation based at the Royal College of Surgeons which provides guidance and education for dentists, and sets the standards for dental care throughout the UK.

Local dentist Onkar Dhanoya, now Senior Vice-Dean of the Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK)

Dr Dhanoya, who already represents the Yorkshire and Northern region on the FGDP board, graduated from Newcastle University in 1985 and has practised dentistry in the North East ever since.

He has been the principal dentist at Honour Health (formerly Osborne Dental Group) for over thirty years, providing treatments including dental implants, facial aesthetics and orthodontics at its three practices in Stanley, Jesmond and Ponteland.

A Fellow of both the FGDP and the International College of Dentists, he has been a clinical teacher at Newcastle Dental Hospital for over twenty years, and holds postgraduate qualifications in implant dentistry, conscious sedation, dental acupuncture, facial aesthetics, clinical education, dental practice management and dental practice appraisal. He is also Chair of North Tyne Local Dental Committee, and President of the British Dental Association’s Northern Counties branch.

Dr Dhanoya commented:

“FGDP is all about promoting the highest standards of dental care for patients. I’ve been proudly representing the region’s dentists on the board for many years, and it’s a huge honour to have earned the trust of colleagues from around the UK to play an even more central role.”
