A North East furniture manufacturer steeped in heritage will be taking its wares to the UK’s leading design festival in London this month.

Godfrey Syrett, which has witnessed first-hand the evolution in furniture design and manufacturing processes since it was first established in 1947, is going to be exhibiting its latest innovative designs at this year’s Clerkenwell Design Week.

Stephanie Knox, marketing executive at Godfrey Syrett said: “This is the first time we have exhibited at Clerkenwell Design Week and we are very excited to be showcasing furniture which has been designed and manufactured by our very talented staff here in the North East.

Clerkenwell is widely considered one of the most important design hubs in the world, so this is a fantastic opportunity for our in-house team of designers to gain recognition on a global scale, whilst learning about up and coming trends.

Our stand’s theme ‘Rethink Your Workspace’ will focus on the ever-changing face of the modern workspace, something we see first-hand in the projects we complete, and the continued blurring of the lines between domestic and contract furniture.”

Clerkenwell Design Week, which is in its eighth year, attracts the international design community and last year attracted 34,973 attendees and over 300 exhibiting brands.

Godfrey Syrett will be exhibiting products from its Flexible Working collection, designed to address the ‘domestification of the office’ trend – incorporating muted fabrics, integrated electrics and wooden frames on soft seating. Among the items on display will be the next generation of Zip, the company’s modular furniture solution which zips and unzips to be reconfigured into a variety of layouts.

The firm will also be launching a commemorative range of minimalist tables and stools, named Harry and Ken after the company’s founders, Ken Godfrey and Harry Syrett.

The firm, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, started business as a furniture supplier to the newly-formed NHS in 1947.  It credits its longstanding heritage to the dedication of its staff and a strong programme of investment; from the latest in fabric cutting technology to a £2m distribution hub.

Clerkenwell Design Week will take place from 23rd – 25th May 2017.
