North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

North East’s biggest sleep-out fundraiser launches

The North East’s biggest fundraising sleep-out event is launched next Thursday (13th July).

Byte Night has raised over £9.6 million for Action for Children since it started in 1998. The North East event is set to be the biggest one yet, with over 150 people already registered to take part in October, including teams from SAGE UK, CIO-Connect, Drax, KPMG, BT and Dell.

The launch event at KPMG on Newcastle Quayside will give anyone thinking of signing up the chance to speak to sleepers who took part last year. There will also be an update on how the money raised is helping change the lives of vulnerable young people in the region.

Byte Night North East Board Co-Chair and SVP at CIO-Connect Alistair Russell said, “Byte Night is a great way for business and tech professionals to come together, give up their beds for a night and show support for vulnerable young people.

The event is held all across the country but here in the North East we’re set to have biggest one yet – in the region that is the fastest growing for successful start-ups, this just exemplifies the energy, innovation and values of the tech sector.

By raising funds and awareness of the services Action for Children provides, we can help the charity tackle the issues young people face which lead to homelessness and prevent more young people from having to sleep on the streets. There’s still time to register and you can also sign up a team from your business. I’d encourage people to come along to the launch, find out more, speak to those who’ve done it before and get involved in this great cause.”

Anyone interested in swapping their suit for a sleeping bag to raise funds for Action for Children is welcome to come along to the launch event.
