North East Connected

Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Northallerton Sixth Form A-Level Results

Among those planning their next step is 18-year-old Jack Brent, from Streatlam, near Northallerton, who has been offered a place at Oxford after receiving three A*s in maths, further maths and physics.

He is planning to study physics at degree level but admits he does not yet know what he wants to do afterwards.

“It’s such a relief to get the grades. I’m nervous about going to university but at the same time it’s an adventure.”

Katherine Sanders, 18, from Northallerton, was awarded one A* in biology and three As in chemistry, physics and extended project qualification.

She is now planning to go to Sheffield to study bio-med science.

She said: “I didn’t think I would get through the physics but I did and it’s such a good feeling to get the results you need.”

The college also offers applied courses, with numerous students receiving D*s – the highest grade you can get.

Kyle Surtees got three D*s and is heading to Lincoln to study computer science.

He said: “It’s so satisfying to study for two years and then get these results.”

Northallerton School and Sixth Form College principal Chris Byrne said he was very pleased with the students’ results.

“What is particularly pleasing is the success of our students across the full range of abilities.

“Our offer has afforded the students the opportunity to move on to the next phase of their academic career, with destinations including Oxbridge and other Russell Group universities, as well as universities offering a range of newer, more applied courses.

“The most important thing is that we are equipping young people with the skills and qualifications they need to get where they want to be.”

Kevin Hardisty, vice chair of the governing body, added: “The governors are delighted with the results.

“We are particularly pleased that the results are excellent for academic and applied subject lines, demonstrating that we cater for students of all aptitudes and aspirations.”
