Local residents helped volunteers from SUSTRANS, the national charity which seeks to promote cycling and other sustainable transport initiatives to tidy up and make a safe and useable route for both cyclists and people on foot.

It was very satisfying to see what we have achieved in a single morning,” said Sally Anderson, Chair of the Northallerton and Villages Community Forum.

“The path between the back of Halfords and Hambleton Leisure Centre had become very overgrown and difficult to use. It was the first path to be tackled since the Forum and local residents carried out an audit of routes earlier in the summer. There was a great atmosphere among the team of volunteers and we got loads of compliments from passers-by.

“If you are interested in hearing more about what is being planned please come along to our Annual General Meeting on Thursday 13 October at Civic Centre, Stone Cross, Northallerton at 4pm.

“The future of, and access to, green open spaces across Northallerton and the surrounding villages is a key priority of the Forum and the meeting will provide the opportunity to consider, and comment on, a proposed ‘Landscape Strategy’ for Northallerton, Romanby and Brompton.”

Members of the Northallerton 880 group will also be at the meeting to talk about their ambitious plans for the 880th anniversary of the Battle of the Standard in August 2018.

  • The group has supported a number of projects over the last 12 months including the successful Northallerton Homegrown Food Festival, the Hambleton Foodshare Scheme and the Pendragon Community Trust.
