Hopping Across The North East From Hub To Hub

Off-road racing returns to Eston!

CALLING all runners – lace up your shoes and get warmed up as Eston town centre welcomes the return of Cleveland’s most exciting off-road running race.

The Eston Nab Challenge Race, a partnership between Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, fell running experts Hardmoors and sponsor SABIC, will challenge runners to complete a 5km or 10km race across the Eston Hills. It is a return for ‘The Nab’ which last ran at the commencement of the former Eston Play Week.

Held on Saturday 18 August, runners will be treated to breath-taking views as they complete the fully marshalled trail.

Event co-chair Councillor Ann Higgins said: “We’re bringing this signature sporting event back to Eston for good!

“There are ambitious plans for Eston, including a major town centre development project on the horizon and events like the returning Nab Challenge Race will all play a part in our bright future.

“None of this would be possible without the help of lots of local people and the farmers and other businesses that have allowed access through their land for the race.

“The SABIC Nab Challenge Race will be a great showcase for Eston and I can’t thank our partners and supporters enough.”

The race is supported by an event village in Eston Square featuring the Eston Residents’ Association Heritage Exhibition, an open air market, food stall, exhibitors and free family fun and entertainment.

Event co-chair Councillor Bob Norton said: “The SABIC Eston Nab Challenge Race will be a great day out for the whole family. We’ve been working for more than 12 months to bring the Nab Challenge Race back and the interest from the local Eston community has been terrific.

“The event village and market will be a real treat for all, runners and spectators alike, and help put Eston back on the map.”

Councillor Carl Quartermain, Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism and Communications, said: “This race is ideal for new runners venturing into the hills for the first time and the more experienced runners who know how to hit top speed while pelting downhill.

“Good luck to everyone taking part. I hope they have a great time.”
