Screen Shot 2015-06-24 at 09.23.38VISITORS to Head of Steam, Darlington’s Railway Museum, will have no reason to be “board” as a new exhibition gets underway from Saturday 25 July until Sunday 6 September.

The Games We Played: Childhood Board and Card Games – features some of the most popular, and lesser known, board and card games from 1920s – 1970s. ‘Touring England’, ‘The “Ace” Football Pool Game’, ‘Totopoly’ Race Game, ‘Rail Race’, ‘Wembley’, Take Your Pick’, ‘Z-Cars’  and ‘Dad’s Army’, are amongst the board games featured as well as more up to date and  well-known games.

The exhibition is themed under different sections and includes: Ancient Games; Race Games; Games of Strategy / War; Television Games; Dice; Word Games; Dominoes; Playing Cards and Card Games;  Commercial Games and Mass Production and Waddingtons.

Councillor Nick Wallis, Darlington Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Environment and Transport said:

“Everyone remembers a favourite game or two from their younger days and this exhibition gathers many of them together under one roof. It is a brilliant way to relive childhood memories as well as take time out to explore the other attractions of the museum.”

Entrance to the exhibition is included in the normal admission fee. For details call 01325 405060 or visit: www.head-of-steam.co.uk; email:headofsteam@darlington.gov.uk
