Only Days Left To Make Sure You Can Have Your Say In May

Screen Shot 2015-04-14 at 16.34.11AS we enter the final countdown to the 20 April deadline for people to apply to get registered to vote in next month’s elections, Stockton Council is urging residents who are not registered to vote to do so immediately to ensure they can have their say in the outcome.

Registering is quick and easy to do. It can be done online at www.gov.uk/registertovote or by calling the Registration Helpline on 01642 526196. Residents will need their date of birth and National Insurance number to hand.

For those unable to go to a polling station on 7 May, the following deadlines apply:

  • Applying to vote by post – Tuesday 21 April5pm
  • Applying to vote by postal proxy – Tuesday 21 April5pm
  • Applying to vote by proxy – Tuesday 28 April5pm

The Council is again recommending that people act today rather than delay until closer to the deadlines.

Margaret Waggott, Head of Democratic Services at Stockton Council, said: “Your vote is your voice, so make sure it is heard in May.

“If you are not registered, you cannot vote. Therefore I would urge anyone who is not registered, to do it today. Your vote matters, so please make sure you’re in.”
